How we work

The path of a financial statement audit

This page walks through how Tideway plans, performs, and reports on a statutory audit. Use it to brief your controller and audit committee before you request an engagement letter.

Inquiry and acceptance

You share year-end dates, entity charts, and whether inventory is material. We check independence, speak with the predecessor auditor when required, and decide whether we can meet your reporting calendar.

Engagement letter and planning

The letter fixes scope, fee, and responsibilities. Planning meetings set materiality, identify significant risks, and schedule interim testing and inventory observation dates.

Interim and year-end fieldwork

Staff test controls where useful, perform substantive procedures, attend stock counts, and clear review notes with the manager and partner. Management receives open-item lists daily during busy weeks.

Reporting and close

Draft findings go to management and those charged with governance. After subsequent-event review, we issue the auditor’s report and management letter, then archive the file under our retention policy.

Quiet office corridor suggesting calm audit fieldwork

Prepared books shorten the field visit

Draft trial balances, reconciliations, inventory listings, and contract files delivered on the agreed date keep fieldwork focused on judgement areas. Late packages push the auditor’s report — and your board pack — later than anyone wants.
